I’ve had a few messages asking me what protein treatment I use after the last couple of posts so here is my current routine. I have been using clear unflavoured gelatin to do a weekly (sometimes twice weekly) treatment.
I dissolve half a sachet in warm water – using enough water to make sure I have enough to soak all my hair. My hair is waist length now so I need quite a bit of gelatin/water to make sure it all gets treated. I co-wash or low/poo and rinse as normal and then I pour the mixture over my head making sure to tip my head upside down to do the underneath too. I leave it on for a minute or two, then rinse and condition/style as per usual. That’s it. Very simple and very cheap. I have read that you can add all sorts of things to the mixture but I like to keep it simple and I find this works fine for me. Like I said, I have a lot of hair so you can start off with smaller amounts of gelatin and experiment – always better to start with less and build up as too much protein is much worse than too little! Sometimes I may use a whole sachet but I just decide by observing my hair and I generally do one of these at least once a week. I find it helps add some structure to my fine hair which can become very soft and flyaway if I only use moisturising conditioners. If your not sure if your hair needs protein you can read about protein here and see it in action here.
