My name is Joia ( Joy-uh) and I am from a small city in Louisiana better known as Tallulah but I currently reside in Las Vegas.
2. Have you always worn your hair curly/natural?
I have not, my mom relaxed my hair at 9 years old, and I ask her now why so young she tells me my hair was to thick and unmanageable..I stumbled on becoming natural from having heat damage and also damage from relaxers…so I transistioned for 6 months did a BC (Big Chop) and I am currently 2 years natural and curly and loving it!!
3. How would you describe your curl type?
My curl type is everywhere I am a 3B around the temples of my hair, I am a 3C and a tad bit of 4a…I’m also low porosity so it takes awhile to get my hair wet and I have to use low heat when doing deep conditioning so it can get into the cuticles and work properly.
4. What’s your hair care routine?
My hair care routine varies, I’ve began doing ACV rinses (apple cider vinegar) only when hair feels extra dirty…then I follow up with deep conditioning rather its a moisture treatment, hot oil treatment, protein, it just depends on what I feel my hair needs, and I only cowash my hair with hello hydration and I do this every 2 to 3 weeks or sooner.
5. When you wash your hair what is your routine and how long does it take?
I would say my wash routine takes 2 to 3 hours depending on the treatments because I leave my deep conditioners on for 30 minutes to and hour and dentangling my hair properly and doing protein treatments for 30mins etc…and also styling and setting my hair its pretty much an allll daayyy process…
6. What products couldn’t you live without?
Hello hydration conditioner for cowashing and extra virgin olive oil for sealing and my moisturizer is tressamme naturals conditioner and of course eco styler gel (the pink one).
7. How often do you get your hair cut and where do you go?
I don’t go to anywhere specefic I’ve had too many bad experiences with salons getting too scissor happy so I trim my hair myself or have my braider trim before I do a protective style every 6 months or when needed.
8. Any tips/words of wisdom about your curls that you want to share?
I started from having a tiny afro to having a little past shoulder length healthy curly hair , care for your curls, love your curls, listen to your curls and you can’t go wrong.
