My name is Lou and I’m a Scottish lassie living in wonderful Melbourne, Australia. I’m the owner of a mass of thick curly hair which for a long time my hair was the bane of my life…. Some years ago I discovered the ‘curly girl’ method of looking after my unruly locks and I’ve never looked back. I’ve learnt to love and embrace my curls and I love sharing tips with other curlies who want to embrace theirs…
I’m originally from Edinburgh in Scotland but I moved to the warmer shores of Australia in 2010. I miss my bonnie hometown but I love being a Melbournite and feel really privileged to be able to call it home.
A few years ago I broke my back cliff jumping (yes, very stupid) and I spent a year pretty much lying down. It was during that time that I discovered the ‘Curly Girl’ method as a way to care for my curls. I was hooked. I spent ages on forums, I tried out new products, read blogs and gradually I found that my hair was looking better and I was gaining confidence in wearing it in its natural state. When I moved to Melbourne I felt there just wasn’t the same resources over here and so Love Your Curls was born – you can read more about LYC here.
It still shocks me that I am at a point where I can offer advice and encourage people to rock their curls when I spent so many years of my life feeling like my hair was a curse. You can read some more about my life with curls here. It was only when I started to understand my curls that I started to really appreciate how unique my hair is and just how lucky I am to have it. Curly hair is unique, it’s part of your personality and it makes you you. It’s time to accept your curls and love them for what they are, it’ll probably be more freeing than you imagine.
Got something you want to share, just want to pop in to say hello? Want to be featured on the blog? I’d love to hear from you!
